While driving home from AZ, (it's a long trip), I discovered we had the manual to the camera in the car so I started reading. We learned how to get a very focused shot.
Put the camera on live view, zoom into your subject, manually focus and then take the picture in that mode. You know for sure your picture is in focus because you are so close to the subject.
